Статуя Батьківщина-мати — один із символів міста. Грандіозна фігура суворої жінки з мечем і щитом підноситься на високому пагорбі, відразу ж приковуючи погляди всіх, хто прибуває в центр міста через Дніпро. Пам'ятник — один з найвищих в світі. Його висота — 102 метри (на 9 метрів вище знаменитої Статуї Свободи і на 55 м вище, ніж статуя Христа Спасителя в Бразилії). Автори пам'ятника — Євген Вучетич і Василь Бородай.
Постаментом статуї служить будівля Музею історії України у Другій світовій війні, який є частиною великого по площі меморіального комплексу. Весь комплекс був відкритий в 1981 році. Створення та установка статуї були серйозним інженерним викликом. Це — перша суцільнозварна конструкція подібного масштабу. Внутрішні металеві опори були обшиті листами нержавіючої сталі, які скріплювалися методом електрозварювання. Загальна довжина швів — більше 20 000 метрів. Вся споруда важить майже 500 тонн.
За перші 40 років експлуатації відхилення від вертикальної осі конструкції склало всього 1 мм.
Якщо дозволяють погодні умови, туристи можуть піднятися на ліфтах і по сходах всередині статуї на два видові майданчики. Майданчик на висоті 36 м — у ніг статуї. А екстремальна площадка на висоті 91 м — в долоні фігури — в руці, що тримає щит.

The Motherland statue is one of the symbols of the city. The grandiose figure of a stern woman with a sword and a shield rises on a high hill, immediately capturing the eyes of everyone who arrives in the city center over the Dnieper. The monument is among the highest statues in the world. Its height is 102 meters (9 meters higher than the famous Statue of Liberty and 55 meters higher than the statue of Christ the Savior in Brazil). The authors of the monument were Yevgeny Vuchetich and Vasily Borodai.
The statue's pedestal is formed by the building of the Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II, which is part of a huge open-air memorial complex. The complex was opened in 1981.
The creation and installation of the statue was a formidable engineering challenge. This is the first all-welded structure of such scale. Internal metal supports were sheathed with stainless steel sheets, which were held together by electric welding. The total length of the seams is more than 20,000 meters. The entire structure weighs almost 500 tons.
For the first 40 years of operation, the deviation from the vertical axis of the structure was only 1 mm.If weather conditions permit, tourists can climb the elevators and stairs inside the statue and get to either viewing platform. The first platform at a height of 36 m is at the feet of the statue. And the extreme platform at a height of 91 m — in the palm of the figure — in the hand holding the shield.
Die Mutterlandstatue ist eines der Symbole der Stadt. Die grandiose Gestalt einer strengen Frau mit einem Schwert und einem Schild erhebt sich auf einem hohen Hügel und fängt sofort die Augen aller ein, die durch den Dnjepr in die Innenstadt kommen. Das Denkmal ist unter den höchsten Statuen der Welt. Seine Höhe beträgt 102 Meter (9 Meter höher als die berühmte Freiheitsstatue und 55 Meter höher als die Statue Christi des Erlösers in Brasilien). Die Autoren des Denkmals waren Jewgeni Wuchetitsch und Wassili Borodai.
Der Sockel der Statue ist das Gebäude des Museums für die Geschichte der Ukraine im Zweiten Weltkrieg, das ein Bestandteil eines riesigen Gedenkkomplexes unter dem freiem Himmel ist. Der gesamte Komplex wurde 1981 eröffnet.
Die Erstellung und Installation der Statue war eine gewaltige technische Herausforderung. Dies ist die erste vollständig geschweißte Struktur dieser Skala. Die gesamte Struktur wiegt fast 500 Tonnen.
In den ersten 40 Betriebsjahren betrug die Abweichung von der vertikalen Achse der Struktur nur 1 mm.
Wenn das Wetter es zulässt, können Touristen die Aufzüge und Treppen in der Statue zu zwei Aussichtsplattformen hinaufsteigen. Die erste Plattform in 36 m Höhe befindet sich am Fuße der Statue. Und die extreme Plattform in 91 m Höhe — in der Handfläche der Figur — in der Hand, die den Schild hält.
